Phra Athikan Niam

Wat Chulamanee once flourished in the time of an abbot of keen intelligence, Phra Athikan Niam, reckoned to be the 2nd abbot as far as can be traced. Elders recount that he was expert in the Khom script, able to impart meditation subjects (kammaṭṭhāna) to those devoted to practice, and was moreover a teacher of letters — so many families sent their children to study with him that a school teaching Thai and Khom was established within the temple.

But when he passed away around B.E. 2459 (1916), Wat Chulamanee nearly became a deserted temple, with only a few monks in residence, and fell largely into ruin and decay, before being revived by Luang Pho Chaem Solos in later years.
