A photo record of the metal-pouring rite (tetthong) for the casting of sacred images at Wat Chulamanee — Sunday 6 March B.E. 2565 (2022) — from the setting out of the moulds on the open ground and the melting of the metal to the pouring itself across the whole ritual area.
The metal-pouring rite (tetthong) for the casting of sacred images of Wat Chulamanee was held on Sunday 6 March B.E. 2565 (2022) at Wat Chulamanee, Bang Chang Subdistrict, Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram Province.
This set records the ritual enclosure inside the great pavilion, the tables of offerings with bai sri, fruit and roast pig, the yantra cloths and framed images of Tao Wessuwan displayed in the rite, the large plaster moulds set out in rows on the open ground, the melting of the metal in the furnaces, and the moment when the monks and the donors together poured the molten metal into the moulds.
Throughout the day thousands of participants filled the pavilion, a piphat ensemble played to accompany the rite, and the faithful set up free-food stalls for those attending.
